Less than two months after the first cases of Oropouche fever were confirmed in Santa Catarina, the disease caused by Maruim fever is progressing in the state. A bulletin issued by the Epidemiological Surveillance of the Supreme Committee on Thursday (13) shows seven cities in the Itajai Valley with infected people.

In the latest survey, there are 78 people infected with the disease in 13 municipalities in the state (See detailed list below). Seven of them are in the Itajaí Valley and the total number of cases: 67. There are also records of the disease in Blumenau, Benedetto Novo, Guapiroba and also in Ilhota.

The SC government informed that a series of actions will be developed alongside town halls to map the progress of Oropouche fever. Among the measures is collecting disease vectors to study and analyze samples from other patients to enhance disease surveillance.

The symptoms of Oropouche fever are similar to those of dengue and chikungunya: headache, muscle pain, joint pain, nausea, and diarrhea. There is no specific treatment. Patients should remain at rest, treat symptoms and monitor their health.
