Nicola recalls a difficult period: “I arrived at Benfica with a son and two suitcases”

Carlos Nicolea remembers how he arrived at Benfica in the 2014-15 season and the importance the club had in his life.

In an interview with the Final Cut podcast, the Argentine international, who represents the Reds hockey team, spoke about his first steps in Portugal and the way he was received by some members of the club.

“I arrived at Benfica with my son and two suitcases. My son was two and a half years old, and I arrived at a club that I never thought would be this big. I knew that Benfica was a big team, but not in the family sense, it is a very simple club. Thiago Pinto is my role model, because I saw that you can make a difference, even as a leader and as a person, without showing up.”

As for the end of her career, Nicolia admits that she still feels able to contribute to the growth of the sport, even though she is 38 years old.

“I know my career is coming to an end, given my age and the years I’ve been playing hockey. But the main thing is the performance, because I say next year is my last and I feel better and better,” he said. “I often say I feel better physically at 38 than I did at 20. I’m a player, not an actor or a politician.”
