New clashes at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Several people were injured after another night of clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at and near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Reuters news agency learned that the Israeli police forces entered the area and tried to remove the Palestinians from the mosque with stun grenades and rubber bullets.
The Palestinians reportedly responded by throwing objects at the police.
Information from the Israeli side was not commented on.
Six people were injured in the latest clashes, according to the Palestine Red Crescent.
The Waqf, the government body that manages Islamic treasures, said that on Wednesday night Israeli police threw grenades and other objects at the crowds to disperse them.
For its part, the Israeli occupation police claimed that dozens of young men caused chaos by throwing stones and the like at the policemen.
The Israeli police arrested several hundred people who entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem the night before. The police claimed that they had to enter the mosque to remove the youths who had barricaded themselves with fireworks, sticks and stones.
Fifty people were injured, according to the Palestine Red Crescent.
Earlier Wednesday evening, rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip, and Israel launched air strikes on what it described as weapons factories run by the Islamist group Hamas, Reuters reported. (NTB)
