New Android competitor? Polestar launches a smartphone in December

Electric vehicle manufacturers have sought to create products that are different from their cars. Polestar is now taking its first steps into this space, and also seems committed to being a contender in the Android world. To that end, Polestar will launch its first Android smartphone in December.

It's not news that Polestar wants to invest in the Android smartphone space. The brand has plans for that, known since September, but has now revealed more of what's coming soon. In addition to more details about its design, it also revealed that its official presentation will take place in December.

The design of the Polestar smartphone was revealed in a brand presentation video and shows a device with flat bezels and vertically stacked cameras on the back, something many are already familiar with. This is reminiscent of the Meizu 20 series that was unveiled before.

Each camera ring has its own focal length and aperture size built into its body. You can see that it will have a 23mm equivalent main camera with f/1.9 aperture, a 70mm telephoto lens with f/2.0 aperture and a 15mm ultra-wide lens with f/2.4 aperture. On the front there is a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The sides have Polestar branding, while the back has the company logo.

As a car manufacturer, Polestar will likely focus on ensuring seamless connectivity between its electric cars and its Android smartphones. However, the exact details of this integration are not yet known.

Meizu, which belongs to the same company that controls Polestar, has its own Flyme Auto software. However, internal reports suggest that the Polestar Phone may offer Polestar OS, which will likely be developed in collaboration with Meizu.

It's still very early and that's why Polestar has not revealed any specifications of its smartphone yet, but rumors reveal that it will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. For now, there are only speculations and rumours, and we will have to wait until December to find out more information about this new Android proposal
