A new type of aura has been demonstrated in Cyprus. It should be a combination of delta and omicron variables. Assistant Director of Health Espen Nakstad takes the news of the variable calmly.

A research group in Cyprus has discovered a new variant of the coronavirus that is supposed to be a mixture of the delta variant and omicron, a Cypriot website reports. sigma life Friday.

Professor Leondios Kostrikos at the University of Cyprus said at the time: – There are currently omicron and delta infections, and we found this variant and it is a mixture of the two.

The new variant was given the nickname “crown delta” due to the identification of omicron-like genetic characteristics in the deltagenome.

The research group has so far identified 25 such cases.

“We found a large number of mutations that were previously only found in omicron cases, which are different from other variants, because their genome contains 30 mutations,” Kostrikos said.

– Omikron has mutated more

Assistant Health Director Espen Rostrup Nacstad did not appear to be particularly concerned about the new surrogate when he spoke to VG on Sunday morning.

– It’s no more surprising that it was the delta variant that mutated, but not as much as an omicron, says Nakstad.

He calls the variant “a much mutated intermediate” and suggests it has an estimated dozens of mutations.

– but omikron mutated more; Ayano: It has approximately 50 known mutations.

At the same time, Nakstad stresses, such mutations happen all the time.

– and there were probably several such steps before we came to omikron anywhere else in the world. But it just shows that the delta variable has changed a lot, now we have another variable that you are aware of.

Professor Kostrikos in Cyprus believes it is too early to talk about how the new format will affect the world.

Time will tell whether the disease is more contagious or whether it will lead us out of the epidemic more easily.

But on a personal level, Kostrikos believes the new alternative will be outdone by omikron.

Nakstad also says that at the moment it is not possible to tell whether a variant is more contagious than previous variants.

Not necessarily more contagious than Omicron. Researchers mapping the variant in Cyprus concluded that it probably does not have more infectious properties than omicron, and that it may not pose a threat to omicron in this way, he said.

– Large numbers can be dark

Of the 25 people diagnosed to date with the variant, 11 have been hospitalized.

– Professor Cypriot said: – We can say that the relationship between the crown of the delta and admission to the hospital is not a coincidence.

But Nakstad believes there may be many hidden factors influencing the numbers, which means the number of patients in hospital isn’t necessarily as worrisome as it might initially seem.

– Dark numbers can be great here. He says there may be more people with this type than you know about.

– So it doesn’t really say much, Dagbladet told when asked about the number of patients in hospital versus the number of confirmed cases.

According to Bloomberg, the Cypriot researchers submitted their findings to the international virus-monitoring database GISAID.

According to Dagbladet, Greek health authorities will also hold a press conference on the alternative this week.
