Jordan Neely, 30, was a familiar face to many New Yorkers. according to Watchman He was constantly seen as a Michael Jackson impersonator in Times Square.

According to the newspaper, Nelly was homeless and suffering from mental disorders.

On Monday, May 1, he was strangled to death in a subway car. On Wednesday, May 3, the city coroner declared Nellie dead.

Murder video

A video shot by freelance journalist Juan Alberto Vazquez shows the 30-year-old being grabbed by several passengers as he kicks his legs.

From the video it appears that Jordan Neely choked for 2 minutes and 55 seconds.

On Thursday, the man identified as Daniel Binney, 24, was found dead. scharged with negligent homicide. This was reported by many American media – among others New York times.

Shortly after the killing, Benny claimed he acted in self-defense.

“It was not his intention to harm Nili,” the lawyers said in a statement. They expect a “complete vindication” of the client.

Street demonstrations erupted when it was learned that the soldier had been released without charge after a short period of detention.

Now Manhattan’s attorney general, Alvin Bragg, has turned around.

– Jordan Neely should be alive today. In a statement, Bragg said, “My thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they continue to grieve their loss at this painful time.” CBS News.

On Friday, the 24-year-old surrendered to police in New York City. He was then taken away in handcuffs.

Making a rolling crown for those accused of murder

He was released on bail of one hundred thousand dollars on the same day, the equivalent of 10.6 million kroner.

The staggering sum was raised by a crowd-funded Crown List – which Penney’s defense attorneys had created in the week prior to the charge.

According to the defence, the remaining krone will cover Penny’s legal expenses. He writes that any remaining extra will go to the city’s mental health care program Fox 32.

The next court session is scheduled for July. If the 24-year-old is convicted, he risks up to 15 years in prison.

Jordan Neely’s family supports the prosecutor’s decision, but would prefer to see the 24-year-old charged with murder rather than negligence.

– Daniel Penny deliberately chose a technique aimed at stopping the air supply. Lennon Edwards, the family’s attorney, said in a statement Friday that he chose to use the technique — choosing to keep clenching his fists minute by minute, second by second, until Jordan Neely was no longer alive.

Schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder

New York Post I spoke previously to the aunt of the deceased, Caroline Neely. She told the newspaper that her nephew is schizophrenic and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Neely was only 14 years old when her mother, Christy Neely, died He was killed and later found in a bag in 2007. Caroline says the killing hit him hard.

– He was never the same again. He became depressed and became more severe over time. Doctors were aware of his condition and he received treatment.

She believes Nellie has finally fallen through the cracks.

He wasn’t aggressive

Nedra Guaba is a close friend of the family, and knows Nellie’s mother well. She explains that Nellie never had a relationship with her father, and that her mother was the only caregiver he had in his life before her death.

– He liked hanging out at subway stations. He wasn’t aggressive. He’s not that kind of person. He loved to dance – it was his mental outlet for things after his mother was murdered.

About two years ago, it started to decline. According to the newspaper, Neely has been arrested several times.

– I ran into him all the time. I fed him, but it was as if he gave up. He felt that the dream had died. Guaba says he just needs his mom.

Professor Christopher V. teaches homelessness at Gettysburg College. He told the New York Times that the killing raises questions about how people should respond to the actions of “the poor, the homeless, and the mentally ill”.

– Those who were in the subway may have felt threatened by the victim, but they were not attacked by him. However, they did see him die, Fee told the newspaper.

The murder of Jordan Neely caused a huge divide among New Yorkers, as well as the city’s politicians.

— Dave Geffen, general manager of the Coalition for the Homeless, said shortly after the murder that the fact that someone had killed a disturbed, deranged man on the subway, and that he was released without charge, was shocking.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul called the incident “extremely troubling.”

Brooklyn and Queens Sen. Julia Salazar, he wrote in a tweet That Jordan Neely choked to death on the subway while people watched and cheered.

The constant haunting of the poor and mentally ill in our city makes such cruelty possible. Salazar writes: It makes our city sick.

– There was no sympathy

Under New York law, a person can justifiably use physical force against another person—if they have a reasonable belief that it is necessary to defend themselves or others. A person exercising force can only use lethal physical force if there is reason to believe the attacker is about to do the same.

– There was no sympathy in that subway car. He did not deserve and should not die the way he did. That’s what really scares me, and it breaks my heart, says Karim Walker, a specialist at the nonprofit Center for Urban Justice, which helps New York’s poor and homeless through legal aid.
