In light of the warning from the State Department of Health of a viral outbreak of measles in Rio State, after the case of a 9-month-old infant was confirmed on November 22, the Municipal Health Department, through the Undersecretary of Primary Care, Monitoring and Health Promotion (Subpav) confirmed the importance of the vaccine against the disease. According to a state technical note, the child lives in the city of Rio de Janeiro and has had no contact with a suspected case or travel history.
Subpav’s Undersecretary, Sharbel Corrie, confirmed that the municipality is continuing to vaccinate the triple virus, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella. The vaccine is given in two doses, with a zero dose for children aged 6 months and a booster dose at 11 months and 29 days.
The doctor explained that “the vaccine is the only way to prevent the spread of the disease that can lead to complications and death.” Between January and November of this year, Campos used 10,272 doses of the trivirus.
The memorandum issued by the state directs health departments to keep epidemiological surveillance services on alert and inform health professionals in public and private networks about the reporting and investigation of suspected measles cases. It also demands that people with fever, rash (usually a red rash on the skin), cough, runny nose, and conjunctivitis be considered suspected cases, regardless of vaccine status.
Vaccination against Covid-19 continues to progress in Campos, and on Monday (13), vaccination will take place in 11 different centers distributed across the city. Those who have not yet received any dose of the fortifying agent as well as those who are eligible for the second dose by dates and the booster dose for persons aged 18 years who have taken the second dose should attend a dose for five months. Vaccination is carried out from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm by distributing passwords.
The first dose may be given to people 12 years of age or older who, for some reason, have not yet been immunized. At the time of vaccination, it is necessary to provide a document with a photo, CPF and proof of residence to receive the vaccine.
The second dose of AstraZeneca is for those who have taken the first dose by November 12 and the Pfizer vaccine is for those who have taken the first dose by November 19. Those who have taken their first dose of CoronaVac by November 29 must also attend stations for the second dose. Everyone must submit a document with photo, CPF, Covid-19 vaccination card and proof of residency.
To receive the booster dose, the person must respect the five-month period and present a document with a photo, CPF or SUS card, a Covid-19 vaccination card with the dates of application of the two previous doses, as well as proof of residency.
The technical note issued by the Ministry of Health states that the booster dose should be with the available vaccination agent on the day. Those vaccinated with Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and CoronaVac are eligible to receive the extra dose. The booster for those who have received the Janssen vaccine is not yet available. The municipality is waiting for the vaccination to be sent by the Ministry of Health to start submitting the application.
