Alex Marquez is the fastest
Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) finished 16th this Friday in the first free motorcycle practice sessions for the Portuguese Grand Prix, the opening race of the World Speed Championship, Spain’s Alex Marquez (Ducati) was fastest.
Marquez, who joined the Gresini team this year, spent 1.38.782 minutes on his fastest lap, 0.045 seconds less than Spain’s Joan Mir (Honda) and 0.140 more than Italy’s Luca Marini, who drives a Ducati in the VR46 team.
Italian world champion Pico Bagnaia on the official Ducati was ninth, 0.693 seconds behind Marquez, behind France’s Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), winner of Portimao in 2022, who spent 0.499 seconds.
In a session that saw light rain in the opening minutes, Miguel Oliveira, making his debut with Aprilia’s satellite team, was 16th, 1.012 behind Márquez, one place ahead of fellow Spaniard Raúl Fernández, who spent 0.100 more than the Portuguese.
Until Friday, MotoGP riders will have a second free trial, from 15:00 to 16:00, with the 10 riders with the best times combined to ensure a direct move into the second stage of Saturday’s qualifying.
