On Thursday, January 13, I set the stage for what might eventually develop into a dramatic and protracted rescue.
Three-year-old Millie of her mixed breed got off her leash and let her escape into the great free world.
lost horizon
Emma Oaks, the owner of Millie, contacted the Dinmaid Rescue and Search and Rescue Service, which sent a missing person report in Hampshire, UK.
It didn’t take long before the first messages arrived from people who had seen Millie on the A27, which runs parallel to the south coast of Hampshire.
When the DDSR followed the advice, they found the dog in the muddy plains along the coast.
But Mielle did not want to be caught, and the rescue company lost her sight. The next day, a message arrived from the Hampshire Police, who could tell us that Millie had been seen along the swampy area of the area.
– He hasn’t blinked in three years
Rolling around in the swamp
Soon, the Coast Guard and firefighters were involved in the operation.
– We offered to use our drones to find them, and DDSR wrote on their planes Facebook pageswhere they describe the entire search process.
It would be another day before rescue services could locate Millie, who was still in the swampy areas along the coast.
But access to it was not so easy. Between the rescue crews and Millie there were 800 meters of sinking mud.
“We sent kayaks to see if we could get close, but we couldn’t,” the rescue company wrote.
– Will you drown?
Then Millie did something that made the rescue more difficult.
While the tide was low, I moved into an area that was sandwiched between two small streams.

After consulting with locals, we found out that if Millie wasn’t moved within a few hours, she would be locked up inside an area that would eventually end up underwater, the DDSR explains.
– Then most likely it sank.
This is where the sausage drone comes into the picture.
Drone sausage
One of the drone pilots came up with the ingenious idea of attaching food to the drone to get Millie out of the dangerous area.
– After checking the regulations, we found out we had 170 grams to play on. So we attached a 60-gram sausage to the drone, DDSR explains.
Then they flew the drone over the area where Mielle was.

– We didn’t think it would work, but it did!
Using the sausage drone, they were able to lure Mielle 300 meters from the area that would have been flooded by the tide. But, despite the best efforts of both the police and the rescue service, she again managed to slip away from the rescuers.
I ran straight past
The next day, new news emerged that Mielle had returned to her “usual” place: the main road. The rescue service has now sent two volunteers to see if they can find it.
We saw her, and followed her from a safe distance to make sure she didn’t hit the busy London road. Then she came off the main road into a dead end and park, where our team tried to catch her. But they say Millie passed them.
Another night passed, without being able to control a fleeting Mielle.
To the emergency room after that: – Danger to life
called in the angel
The next day, the rescue service received reports that Millie was in an industrial estate. He was afraid that she would go up the main road again, and so they sought help from Mielle’s owner, Emma.
Emma’s father Tony came to the place.
– After walking around the area for 15 minutes, Millie came running to the owner’s father and wagging his tail happily.
Thus, a long search was finally completed, and Mielle was able to return to her owner’s home. The dog also went to the vet, who can confirm that everything is fine.
Lots of love and comfort is the only thing described, says DDSR.
– wave of relief
Emma Oakes, tells the British newspaper Watchman She is so happy that Millie is back.
I felt a wave of relief roll over me. She says it was great getting her home again, and she adds:
He gets a giant compensation after the restaurant’s mistake
– Millie is very fond of food, she eats everything that you give her … raw carrots, cucumbers – but she prefers sausage. Meat is the best she knows, so tempting her with sausage was probably the best way to tempt her.
She says that Millie is a resettlement dog, and that she is very shy.
– She loves to be home and now that she’s back, she’s only sleeping. She just sleeps and eats.
