The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) was part of the “Amazon and the Coming Challenges for Science and Technology Policy” panel at the RNP Forum 2023 – Emerging Applications. The event, which takes place from Tuesday to Thursday (29th and 31st), aims to discuss the role of ICTs in the development of education and research in Brazil.
During the session, the guests presented ideas and strategies to promote the development of the Amazon region. Minister Valdez Joyce highlighted the importance of the Amazon region and affirmed the federal government’s commitment to investing in science and technology for the regional development of traditional societies.
“There is a clear interest in ensuring that technological progress not only benefits the large centres, but also reaches riparians, extractive workers, small-scale producers, indigenous peoples and quilombolas. I recognize the importance of extending regional development beyond large initiatives, to include Small producers too.
The Minister also noted the importance of the discussion in searching for solutions and exchanging experiences and highlighted the new PAC investment in the region. “Being involved in this discussion and contributing to the dialogue in search of solutions for the people of the Amazon is a great honor. In addition, it is important to benefit from the knowledge that has already been generated in the region, given the significant investment in science and technology through the new political action committee for the region Amazon, announced by President Lula.
The panel also included contributions from Carlos Amerigo Pacheco, CEO of the Technical-Managing Council of the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp); Patricia Ellen, CEO, Systemiq; and Rafael Pontes Lima, Director of Technical Advisory for Federal and Parliamentary Relations at the RNP.
In the speech of the speakers, questions were raised such as the importance of the Amazon region for Brazil, the ecological transition plan and development measures that unite the technological sciences and could, as a result, lead to productivity, improvement of the regional economy, combating inequality and promoting development. The RNP Forum 2023 is a space to meet, network, and update key trends in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Over three days, the event brings together key players in the national system of science, technology and innovation to discuss the role of ICT in the development of education and research in Brazil. The theme of this year’s Forum is Emerging Applications in Education, Science and Culture. The program includes lectures, panel discussions, and workshops, in addition to an exhibition area that includes several platforms.
