George Russell had the most unexpectedly great time ahead of the Miami GB in his second F1 training session. This is proof that Mercedes is on the right track in the development of the car. Max Verstappen missed almost the entire session.

Formula 1 drivers’ first practice before the Miami GB to find their limits on a new circuit built around Hard Rock Stadium. At that time, Carlos Science was very lucky because the Ferrari driver made a mistake in a corner and flew to the side of the road. The Spaniard miraculously escaped the crash of the F1-75 model.

In the afternoon F1 session, the Maranello driver was out of luck. Minutes after the start of the race, Science made another serious mistake and smashed the red car all over, earning another red flag this weekend.

Max Verstappen also struggled with problems. Once that was done, problems were discovered during the first training session of the Red Bull racing car with the engine overheating. For this reason, the gearbox was replaced in the car of the current world champion, and he picked up the track shortly after the afternoon session. However, the performance of the RB18 model could not be fully verified because of a malfunctioning steering system. Eventually, Verstappen got stuck in the garage for the rest of his training.

Voltaire Potas missed the entire session. This is the result of an accident that occurred during the first exercise. The Alfa Romeo mechanics could not recreate Finn’s car in a timely manner and as a result of qualifying on Saturday he will enter the stock market with less knowledge than his colleagues.

Another red flag was raised by Nicholas Latifi, who suddenly had to park his car as he lost power. The Canadian could not even get to Pit Lane, so the judges had no choice but to interrupt the track for a few minutes.

George Russell, on the other hand, avoided the problem. Young Brit was unexpectedly ahead of F1 in 1: 29,938, 0.106 seconds faster than Charles Lecklerk. The Russell decision is the best proof that the fixes that Mercedes brought to the Miami GB are working properly.

“Intermediate tires have a lot of hopping problems,” Russell pointed out on the radio, suggesting that the Mercedes racing speed would not be so great.
