Just a month before the US presidential election, former US First Lady Melania Trump has come out with her autobiography.
In the book, she goes to great lengths to defend women's right to decide about their bodies, Write the Guardianwho received a copy.
It is necessary to ensure that women have the independence to decide whether they want to have children, based on their own opinions and without interference or pressure from the ruling authorities, as Melania Trump wrote in the book.
Defends the right to abortion
The former First Lady has rarely been vocal about her political views in the past.
In her autobiography, which will be published next Tuesday, she expresses views that stand in stark contrast to her husband's policies and that contradict the Republican Party's conservative view on abortion.
Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to decide what she does with her body? Melania Trump wrote that a woman's fundamental right to individual freedom, and to her private life, gives her the right to terminate a pregnancy if she so desires.
In June 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which since 1973 had guaranteed American women the right to free abortion.
When Trump was president, he nominated three Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade, much to the delight of abortion opponents. Therefore, it is up to each state whether abortion is legal or not.

She will veto the new abortion law
Donald Trump has previously been unclear about whether he would support a new national abortion law if he became president.
He announced on Tuesday that he would veto such a law if he wins the election.
“Everyone knows that I will not support any federal abortion ban under any circumstances, and I will veto it, because it is up to the states to decide based on what voters want,” Trump wrote on social media.
The announcement came in the middle of the vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and J.D. Vance.
“My body, my choice”
In the autobiography, Melania Trump also expressed her disagreement with some of her husband's views on immigration, because she herself is not from the United States.
It also does its best to defend personal freedom, linking the right to abortion directly to this.
She wrote in the book that the slogan “my body, my choice” is often associated with activists and those who take the “pro-choice” side of the American debate.
– But if you think about it, the phrase “my body, my choice” applies to both aspects – a woman's right to make independent choices regarding her body, including the right to choose life. Personal freedom.
