The inspection took place on Friday 15 October, and was completed shortly before lunchtime.
Never go to McDonald’s again
However, when the Norwegian Food Safety Authority reviewed the sanitary conditions in the restaurant, customers were instead asked to leave the premises.
– The inspection came as a result of a complaint from a customer who indicated that there was rodent activity in the restaurant, and that he found mouse droppings in the kitchen and a dead mouse in a closet, the city council wrote.
And quite rightly, when the Norwegian Food Safety Authority came to visit, they found a dead rat and large amounts of rat droppings strewn on the filthy ground.
It concluded that the conditions posed an imminent risk to public health, and the restaurant was closed indefinitely.
closed until further notice
On Thursday, October 21, the Thames Magistrates’ Court decided to issue an emergency ban – meaning the restaurant cannot reopen until mistakes are corrected and it no longer poses a risk to customers.
McDonald’s is not opposed to the decision and has also decided to pay the costs associated with the closure, which amount to just over 20,000 crowns.
Clyde Lukes, vice president of Waltham Forest City Council, says they won’t hesitate to act when companies don’t meet the requirements.
We take all food hygiene complaints seriously, no matter how small or large the restaurant is. Customers should be able to eat safely, and we won’t hesitate to shop when businesses don’t meet requirements, Lux says.
Shock results: – Oh my God!
– We know McDonald’s has a good reputation for being clean, which is also why such cases are so rare. I understand this is the first time in more than two decades that a local inspection has closed one of their restaurants, he says, and continues:
Mice can carry a number of diseases that can infect humans and cause real harm. I am pleased that the company has admitted its mistakes in this incident, and is cooperating with the Food Inspection Authority of the City Council.
– took hold immediately
According to the local British newspaper and the tabloid London Evening Standard A McDonald’s spokesperson said cleanliness and hygiene are of the utmost importance to the chain of restaurants.
– Once we became aware of the problem, we started working with our pest control partner to take action immediately. This includes cleaning the restaurant thoroughly, and implementing structural changes to ensure any hygiene issues are resolved forever, the spokesperson says.
