‘Matrix Resurrections’: Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss explain the absence of Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving

Matrix Resurrections brings back actors from earlier films, beginning with Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), but leaves out two of the main ones: Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) and Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith).

Fans have lamented the absences, but the new sequel doesn’t completely disregard the iconic stature of its characters, seen in footage from previous films.

In several interviews, Lawrence Fishburne did not sidestep the topic and said he did not have an answer and that he was left out and the question should be put to director Lana Wachowski.

On the other hand, Hugo Weaving revealed that return negotiations were at an advanced stage, but the director withdrew when difficulties arose in reconciling the filming agenda with the actor’s commitments to the theater business in Australia.

“Matrix Resurrections” features a smaller version of Morpheus, as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who he explained was playing a “different iteration of the character”.

Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss explained what happened and admitted that they missed their peers.

The actor said, “I’m talking to Lana about it…she just went where she wants to go creatively with the production and the story. Yes, we love Hugo and Lawrence, and we’ve always been thinking about them.” In an interview with Yonilad.

“It’s hard not to think of them because they are such a big part of them,” Carrie-Ann Moss added.

“I love them both and they are both talented and excellent people. But for Lana there has been an evolution in what happened to the story and we are here to serve that.”

“Matrix Resurrections” is already shown in Portuguese cinemas.
