Strong storms are affecting at least 15 states in the Midwest and Southern United States.
Authorities said at least seven people died as a result of the storm in Arkansas, Illinois and Indiana in the United States.
In Little Rock, Arkansas, one death was reported after the storm. In the town of Wayne in northeastern Arkansas, two people were reported dead.
In Belvidere, about ten miles northwest of Chicago, parts of the roof of the Apollo Theater concert venue collapsed as a result of the storm.
The local fire chief confirms that one person has died. In addition, 28 people will be infected.
The local fire chief told CNN that at least 200 people must have been present at the Apollo Theater when the roof collapsed.
Several wounded in Arkansas
In Illinois and Arkansas the extreme weather is the worst. According to the US National Weather Institute (NWS), more than 60 tornadoes were reported in the past 24 hours.
Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi were also affected.
Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the hurricane caused significant damage in the center of the state. She says the emergency services are working to help every injured person.
At least 50 people have been hospitalized in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to the city’s mayor, Frank Scott Jr.
Local television station WUSA reported earlier in the evening that at least 600 people were injured. They did not explain the severity of the injuries.
More than 350,000 people were endangered as a large and destructive tornado battered businesses and neighborhoods.
National Guard deployment
In several places, people are stuck in destroyed homes.
– In Wayne, people are trapped in homes with significant damage, says Rescue Service (ADEM) spokesperson Rebekah Magnus.
They work to help those who cannot get out of their homes.
– I activated the Arkansas National Guard. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote on Twitter that they would help the emergency services.
Bring airline passengers to safety
In the small, southern town of Roanoke, Illinois, both buildings and cars had windows blown out as a result of the hail.
At the main O’Hare airport outside of Chicago there were significant delays. Passengers were removed from the planes and lowered into the tunnels to reach safety from the inclement weather.

More storms are coming
