Manchester City star threatens strike: We will have no alternative

RAudrey Hernandez warned on Tuesday at a press conference that the possibility of players going on strike as a form of protest against UEFA and FIFA has not been ruled out, given the excessive pressure on the sporting calendar.

“I think we are close to that. That is the general opinion of the players and if it continues like this we will have no alternative. I think that is something that really worries us. We are the ones who suffer,” he began, in comments reported by the British BBC Sport television channel.

“Between 40 and 50 is the number of games a player can play at the highest level. After that, there is a decline, because it is impossible to maintain the physical level. This year, we will probably play 70 or even 80,” he continued. “In my humble opinion, that is too many.”

“Someone has to look after us, because we are the main figures in this sport, this industry or whatever you want to call it. It is not all about money or marketing. It is about the quality of the show,” the Manchester City midfielder added.
