Lunar eclipse visible in Portugal on Monday

DrA total lunar eclipse will occur in the early hours of May 16, according to the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory (OAL).

The moon begins to enter the semi-shadow of the Earth at 2:31 am, and from that moment it “gradually darkens, acquiring more and more shades of gray.”

Then, at 3:28 AM, the moon begins to enter the Earth’s shadow, acquiring more reddish-brown hues.

The observation shows that the beginning of the total eclipse occurs at 4:29 am, when the moon is inside the shadow cone over the entire Earth.

“Although it is completely in the shadows, the moon is still visible but has a reddish-brown hue,” OAL reveals.

“The maximum eclipse occurs at 5:12 am when the moon is at the center of the Earth’s shadow. The moment of the full moon occurs only two minutes later at 5:14 am. At 5:54 am the total eclipse was ending, that is, the moon begins to leave the shadow, It gradually loses its red tone and acquires a darker gray tone. Finally at 7:52 a.m. the moon leaves a semi-shadow to completely return to its usual color, but by this time, the moon will already be back below the horizon,” it can be read.

The next total lunar eclipse will not occur until November 8, 2022.

The observatory revealed that the eclipse will be visible on the same side in all places on Earth in which the moon is at that moment above the horizon.

Thus, the people who will have the opportunity to witness this total lunar eclipse are those who live on the mainland and the island of Portugal, in Western Europe, as well as in the Middle East, Africa, South America, North America, Antarctica, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
