Last Thursday (12) the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, met with the Minister of Education Camilo Santana, and the Secretaries of the Ministry of Education (MEC). The meeting discussed paying scholarships, supporting universities and the academic community, and promoting national research.

For Minister Luciana Santos, the dialogue and alignment of public policies between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the MEC is fundamental for the country.

“The development of science, technology and innovation activities is directly related to educational policy. Scientific progress goes hand in hand with education, which is responsible for mastering knowledge and searching for answers and results,” the minister said.

“The combined action of education, science and technology leads to important and relevant outcomes for society. It is essential that we maintain an ongoing and consistent dialogue, in order to promote these outcomes,” added the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana.

Also during the meeting, the MCTI Minister proposed projects to be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education, including “Espaços 4.0”.

Espaços 4.0 are innovation centers that combine a maker lab and an ICT lab. The centers have the latest equipment, such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, lasercutters, and Arduino kits of various models, among others.

Installed in schools, it is open to school community and community participation. Two professors and four students are responsible for space, directing the use of equipment, promoting the development of innovation projects and creating practices that favor integration and active learning by students.

Last Wednesday (11), the Minister received the Deputy Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Gabriel Souza, to discuss the holding of the second edition of one of the largest innovation events in the world, the South Brazil Summit.

The event, which will take place in Porto Alegre (RS) on March 29, 30 and 31, will promote a global meeting between startups, companies and investors.

At the meeting, Luciana Santos was invited to be a speaker at this second edition of South Summit Brasil and she committed herself to the collaboration and emphasized that this type of event enables the exchange of global experiences between the actors of the innovation system and encourages the emergence of startups, which can change people’s lives in several fields. .

“The demands of companies in the technological field are increasing and it is necessary to strengthen the scientific and human foundations of the country to respond to this demand,” said Luciana Santos. The Minister emphasized that Brazil has a strong and internationally relevant ST&I system.

Gabriel Souza explained that the focus of South Summit Brazil is to “connect start-ups, global investment funds and corporations” and act as a showcase for Brazilian companies to the world.

According to him, the program of the event includes a series of world-famous speakers. In addition, it hosts the largest global startup competition in Brazil. At this year’s edition, more than 1,000 startups from 79 countries registered.

South Summit Brazil CEO Tiago Ribeiro said the first edition of the event, in 2022, welcomed around 20,000 people and had a group of actors from the innovation ecosystem that included 500 investors. The goal is to hold the event in Brazil for five years.
