The Portuguese stock exchange ended the first session of the week higher, on a mixed day in Europe, in the wake of events in Russia with the Wagner Group.
The first session after the upheaval in Russia – with the Wagner Group’s break with the Kremlin and subsequent easing of tensions – left key European squares aimless. However, Lisbon closed with the largest gains, mainly driven by Mota-Engil and BCP.
The PSI advanced 0.68% to 5,908.51 points, with 11 points up, four in the red and one, REN, closing unchanged.
Ibersol led the gains, rising 2.75% to 6.72 euros, closely followed by Mota-Engil that rose 2.48% to 2.065 euros. Building It announced today that it has signed a host of contracts in Africa worth around €650m.
With an increase of more than 2%, Altri advanced 2.09% to 4,198 euros, while the other PSI paper manufacturer, Navigator, rose 1.24% to 3.1 euros.
Among the heavyweights, BCP gave the biggest boost to the main national index, rising 1.77% to close at €0.2127. The bank, led by Miguel Maia, benefited from the good performance on the stock exchange of the Polish bank it controls. Bank Millennium touched a 14-month high today, following an upward revision of MBank’s recommendation for Millennium stocks.
Galp rose 1.04% to 10.65 euros, following positive sentiment in the sector in Europe.
Retail trade also enjoyed a day of gains, with Jerónimo Martins up 0.63% to €25.42, staying close to recent historical highs, and Sonae up 0.39% to €0.907.
In the EDP family, the day was mixed: the parent company rose 0.33% to €4.5, while the renewable energy arm lost 0.27%, ending the day at €18.68.
The biggest drop of the day belonged to another renewable energy company: Greenvolt. The company, led by Manso Neto, fell 0.56 percent to 6.2 euros.
