Rock in Rio returns this weekend, and to ease traffic on the roads during the event, changes will be made to traffic. Lisbon Metro operating hours will also be extended. Learn about the changes:
Traffic changes (and restrictions):
– IC2 upon arrival at the Rotunda in the Republic of Colombia;
– Rotunda of Dom João II and Av.
– Praca do Venturoso;
– The Rotunda of the Viceroys;
– Roads near Gare do Oriente – Roundabout on Aquilino Ribeiro Machado Street with Índico Street and roundabout on Avenue de Berlin with Av.
– The central axis of Dom João II Street between Gare do Oriente and Rotunda da República de Columbia, in both directions;
Restrictions previously applied to Via do Oriente, Passeio dos Heróis do Mar and the roundabout between Rua Domingos José de Morais, Rua Roald Amundsen and Rua da Cotovia (under the IC2 bridge) remain in place;
GIRA stations next to Pingo Doce – Parque das Nações Norte and Colégio Pedro Arrupe will be deactivated, with only GIRA station 113 – Parque das Nações (between Rua das Vigias and Passio do Levante) operational;
TVDE, scooters and bicycles from various operators will not be able to access the restricted environment;
The preferred point for picking up and dropping off passengers on the TVDE will be in the area under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Llores, upon arrival at the bicycle pedestrian bridge over the Trancao River, duly coordinated by the police entity on site;
Still in the municipality of Llores, there will be restrictions on EN 10 with Rua Domingos José Morais and EN 10 with Rua Fábrica da Loiça de Sacavém.
The memorandum also states that all mobility changes and related traffic diversions will be duly coordinated on-site by police entities and “access will be ensured for residents and shopkeepers, as long as they are accompanied by proof of residence.”
Lisbon Metro will have an extended service
The Lisbon Metro will continue running on the red and green lines, on the nights of June 22 and 23, until 2:30 am, during the Rock in Rio 2024 festival, which takes place in Parque Tejo Lisboa.
This extension of the operation will take place under conditions similar to those implemented on the 15th and 16th, that is, all stations of the Red Line will be open, with the exception of the Oleas, Bella Vista and Encarnação stations. On the Green Line, Alameda, Cais do Sodré, Areeiro, Campo Grande and Telheiras stations will be open. Trading will be in 6-car trains.
Metropolitano de Lisboa reminds us that the Oriente and Moscavide stations are the closest to the event site. For those leaving at Oriente Station, you can take the Carris shuttle that will take you to Parque Tejo. If you get off at Moscaved station, it will take about 25 minutes to walk to the event venue.
In order to facilitate travel and avoid delays and unnecessary queues, the Metropolitano de Lisbon recommends the use of a bank card that allows payment and validation of the trip on the network directly with the validator in the arrival channel, as long as the card has a contactless system.
Metropolitano de Lisboa will be present at Rock in Rio alongside Carris, CP, Fertagus and Transtejo Soflusa, who also offer specific transportation offers to travel to the festival grounds.
