Judge orders Google to open Android app store to competitors

the The injunction, issued by Judge James Donato, requires Google to make several changes, including distributing through the Playstore Android applications from stores that contain applications from competing companies, so that consumers can download them to their mobile phones if they wish.

Donato gave Google until November to comply with his order.

The company insisted it needed 12 to 16 months to design safeguards to reduce the possibility of millions of mobile phones and other mobile devices becoming infected with malicious computer software.

Google responded, in a message posted on its blog, saying that it would request a suspension of the decision and would appeal it.
