Benfica vice-president highlights 'member evaluation' and youth

Jaime Antunes revealed on Wednesday that a single global proposal for the laws had been agreed upon. Speaking to BTV, the vice-president announced that the board, the law review committee and the “Servir o Benfica” movement had reached an understanding and revealed some changes, particularly regarding votes.

“The management tells the partners that it is here to unify Benfica and find consensus on structuring issues. In this regard, we must congratulate all of us, the management and also all the other supporters who have agreed to participate. There is only one world championship to review, regardless of the specific proposals that the General Assembly will take into account in this specialty,” the director told BTV.

The board representative at the meetings promoted by chairman Fernando Ceará, Jaime Antunes, revealed that members entitled to one vote now have three votes and those with five votes increase to ten. Those who have the twentieth and fiftieth votes “remain completely equal”. The aim is to enhance “member appreciation” and “bring youth to the club”. Under this strategy, compatible partners who wish to become permanent partners are entitled to half of their seniority.

According to Jaime Antunes, this proposal “replaces the previous three” and will be submitted for approval by the partners at an extraordinary general meeting, which will apparently be held in September. He added that the new statutes “will enter into force with the call for the next elections scheduled for 2025. Therefore, they will apply to future legal entities”.

In this regard, Jaime Antunes stressed that electronic voting will only exist if there is consensus between the lists of candidates. He explained that “the administration has expressed its openness in the future procedures to use the electoral list. This list provides for actual voting at the ballot boxes, unless the competing lists unanimously accept electronic voting.”
