The Tour champion responded with praise given to him by the Portuguese cyclist during the Gran Camiño
Ruben Guerrero and Jonas Vinggaard exchanged compliments this Saturday at the end of the third stage of the Gran Camiño, with the Portuguese setting the Tour champion one level higher and Dane complimenting the Movistar rider’s development.
“He is the winner of the Tour de France, I tried to follow him for a few metres, but it was too difficult for me. Who knows if I will one day be able to follow these competitors in the summer. But he and the [Tadej] Pogacar they are above all”, they shot the Portuguese from Movistar, referring to his first and second places in the last Tour de France.
This Saturday, Ruben Guerrero was again second in the stage, 21 seconds behind the Dane from Jumbo-Visma, and is second overall, 53 seconds off the yellow jersey, signifying his resignation to his fate.
“[Vingegaard] It’s very strong. I didn’t feel well either. [hoje]”, he admitted in statements to Agency Lusa, noting, however, that, compared to the Volta Andalusia, he felt better.
The recent winner of the Tour of Saudi Arabia was happy to be able to keep pace with Ion Isagiri (Cofidis), the “record runner”, who ended up crashing before the last 1,000m of the climb.
“These are good indications for me, that the work is being done well, and this is the most important thing,” he concluded.
Despite dominating the Galician race at will, Jonas Vingaard paid tribute to the 28-year-old cyclist from Begis Vilhos (Montego), after Losa reported to him that Guerrero had impressed with his performance on this stage on Saturday.
“I also think he’s very impressive. He’s a very good runner, very strong. Yesterday [na sexta-feira], was also second. I think she has developed a lot in recent years and it’s good to see her.”
