“The desire to study linguistics in the best university in a European country” was the main factor that led to this Fabio Granga to pick University of Porto Faculty of Arts (FLUP) as “home” for years to come. Fabio left Brazil, the country where he grew up, and came to Portugal in search of an “opportunity”.
From the first year as a degree student Language Science, the 21-year-old student highlights the “support provided by teachers”, which has proven to be a preponderance in this new phase, in addition to the opportunities offered to him by FLUP, namely “the ability to develop a scientific research project”, something he considers essential. Many prospects are open to him.

The FLUP student will be one of the twenty students to receive the 2023 incentive award, on March 22, University Day. “It’s a great motivator for me to continue what I’ve been doing until now,” he says, adding that it’s “great to know that the university has initiatives like this.”
As far as the future is concerned, Fabio Granga assumes Porto is still part of his plans. He posits that “it would be a great goal” to stay connected to higher education, especially to university,
What prompted you to choose U Porto?
The desire to study linguistics in the best university in a European country can welcome me very well. Soon, when searching for Portuguese universities, I came across the University of Porto, and the curriculum attracted me very much.
What did you like most about your first year at university?
The opportunity, from the very beginning, to be able to develop a scientific research project, which opened many horizons for me. Plus the support of the teachers who were always very present.
What would you like to see improve at university?
I would like there to be more study spaces in addition to the library, whose space is sometimes not enough.
What is the importance of the encouragement award to you?
The significance is in the name: it’s a great motivator for me to continue what I’ve been doing so far. It’s great to know that the university has initiatives like this.
How do you see your future after 10 years?
I see myself studying in higher education, maybe even at U Porto. It would be a great goal!
