UN: Israel ordered thousands of Palestinians to leave the shelter that was bombed on Wednesday
Israel ordered thousands of Palestinians to leave a UN shelter in Khan Yunis, a day after Israel opened fire on the centre.
At least twelve people were killed and 75 injured when the clearly marked UN building was fired upon from two tanks, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
On Thursday, an UNRWA spokeswoman said that displaced Palestinians staying at the center had been given a deadline to leave by 5pm on Friday.
The United Nations and the United States condemned the attack that occurred on Wednesday. After American criticism, Israel denied that Israeli missiles were the ones that hit the building.
UNRWA said that the building was bombed by two tanks, without mentioning Israel. However, only Israel has tanks in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army stated that it was still investigating the incident and indicated that the building may have been hit by a missile fired by Hamas.
The fighting in the large city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip led to the isolation of the two most important hospitals in the city. Hundreds of patients and thousands of displaced people staying in hospitals are unable to reach anywhere. Meanwhile, fierce battles are taking place outside.
