ISP Increase Stops Fuel Decline

ISP Increase Stops Fuel Decline

Fuel prices will continue to fall next week, according to a joint order from the regional government published today, but not as much as they could if the internet service provider doesn't go up.

As of next Monday, the maximum price for a litre of 95-litre petrol will not exceed 1,495 euros, and the price of simple diesel will not exceed 1,246 euros. These values correspond to decreases of 0.8 cents and 0.9 cents respectively.

The price drop was not greater because the regional government continues to adjust ISP benefits, as JM has already reported.

In fact, a new decree was issued today once again updating the unit tax rates on petroleum and energy products (ISP) applied in the region, “in order to ensure fiscal neutrality in the final sale price of fuel to the public.”

“This means that just as the government was offsetting the impact of the increase in raw materials, by reducing the ISP – and since neutrality goes both ways – now that fuel prices have fallen – given the stability of the price of the oil barrel that we have seen in recent weeks – this week, in which the adjustment of the ISP prices does not cause significant effects on the final price that will be paid, is used to change the tax again,” the regional finance secretariat said today.

Despite this change, the government confirms that “fuel prices will fall again next week compared to the average price of the previous week.”

The Regional Finance Secretariat has also made available data that allows prices in Madeira to be compared with the mainland.

Thus, this week, the price of a litre of petrol in the region is 1,503 euros/litre, but on the mainland it is 1,651 euros/litre.

In the case of diesel, the average price was set at €1.255 per litre in Madeira and €1.535 per litre on the mainland.

As for colored and special diesel (GCM), the price is 0.938 euros per liter here and 1.187 euros per liter there.

Therefore, the Secretariat, supervised by Rogerio Gouveia, concludes, “In the case of gasoline, the Region has a PMVP that is 14.8 cents lower than that practiced in the mainland. In the case of road diesel, RAM has a PMVP that is 28.0 cents lower than that practiced in the mainland. In the case of GCM, RAM has a PMVP that is 24.9 cents lower than that practiced in the mainland (€1.187/liter)”.
