In terms of positive points identified, DXOMARK is accurate exposure, wide dynamic range and high contrast on HDR displays. There's also reliable autofocus, wide depth of field and high levels of detail, both in photo and video mode or the simulated wide aperture and natural bokeh effect in portrait mode.

The first victory for these cameras

The Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max showed excellent results in DXOMARK Selfie tests. It took first place in the rankings, despite using very similar front-facing camera hardware to last year's model and only minor improvements on the software side.

During testing, Apple's HEIC image files with embedded HDR data looked impressive when viewed on a dedicated HDR display. Photo and video results were stunning in the Photos app on macOS Sonoma on the XDR display and in the Photos app on the iPhone 15 Pro Max display, with displays brighter and more vibrant than ever before.
