On September 10, Indiana Jones and adventure partner Short Round met backstage at D23 Expo, the annual event for Disney fans.
The photos impressed audiences and went viral, but there’s also a heartbreaking story behind them that Ke Huy Quan wasn’t sure Harrison Ford would recognize: It’s been 38 years since the adventures of “Indiana Jones and the Lost Temple.”
Journalist Kyle Buchanan couldn’t resist anticipating the excerpt with this account from the interview with the Vietnamese American actor who, after this movie and The Goonies, was 35 years away from his career before returning in “Everything Everywhere Along the Same Time.” (2022), one of the biggest cinema sensations of the year.
“We were at D23 and they told me Harrison would be there. We were in this waiting room with a lot of actors and producers and directors and the person who was in charge of my escort said, ‘Harrison is outside the waiting room.'” Go there to be greeted? “
Ke Huy Quan immediately answered yes, but then became anxious as he wasn’t sure if he would be recognized.
As he approaches, Ford is talking to co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the fifth movie, “Indiana Jones.”
“When I got close, my heart was pounding. I was thinking, ‘Will he recognize me?'” The last time he saw me, I was a kid. As I approached, he turned and pointed a finger at me, and got that classic, Harrison Ford’s famous, grumpy look. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, he might think I’m a fan and he’s going to tell me not to get close to him,’ he continues.
But he looked at me and pointed at me and said, ‘Are you short? “Give me a big hug,” he recalls.
“When I put my arms around him, all those wonderful memories from filming came back. I felt so comfortable. He was amazing, and he’s an amazing guy – one of the most generous men on the planet.”
Indiana Jones 5 will be released on June 30, 2023.
