Increase in dengue cases in Santa Catarina requires intensification of preventive measures

With more than 500 dengue cases recorded in Santa Catarina in the first quarter of 2022 alone, the passwords are alert and prevention. According to the state health department, through the Directorate of Epidemiological Surveillance (DIVE), 119 municipalities in Santa Catarina are infested with the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Vice President of the Santa Catarina Pest Control Association (ACPRAG), Andre Cotto, explains that the accumulation of litter and stagnant water should be avoided, thus reducing the incidence of spread insect eggs. “It is necessary to analyze the location and facility spread for a more complete strategy to attack the dengue mosquito,” he adds.

Mosquitoes are the vector of three diseases, dengue fever, Zika virus, and chikungunya. Investing in a physical barrier such as closing doors and windows makes the environment safer. He considers that “in places where mosquitoes are detected, it is important to have an inspection every 15 days, in addition to observing epidemiological surveillance.”

Hiring qualified service companies increases the potential for pest control in urban areas. “Control should be done by reaching both stages of mosquitoes. Both larval and adult. That is why it is important to choose a company certified for this process,” he says.

ACPRAG

The Santa Catarina Pest Monitors Association (ACPRAG / SC) has been working since 2001 to represent the interests of companies operating in this sector throughout the state, with actions aimed at the professionalization and development of the activity.
