The 21st National Science and Technology Week (SNCT) will be held between Tuesday (15) and Thursday (17) at the Recife Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IFPE). In this edition, the theme of the event is “Sustainable Challenges and Perspectives of Brazilian Biomes – Diversity, Knowledge and Social Technologies”. Register here.

In addition to the Institute's students, external audiences can participate in the event, which will include exhibitions, a knowledge fair, a craft fair and dialogues for sustainability: summer courses. The latter is led by graduate students from the Professional Master's Degree in Environmental Management on campus. There will also be the 12th Campus Expansion Exhibition, a business exhibition, lectures, short courses, workshops and cultural performances.

The event will also include services from the Court of Justice and the Public Ministry, as well as interactive activities on environmental education at the COMESA mobile unit. All of them this Wednesday (16).

Participants will also be able to donate toys that will be given to children during the Christmas period.

The opening ceremony of the 21st SNCT will take place, this Tuesday (15), at 9:30 am, in the hall, with a cultural presentation followed by the panel (10:30 am to 12 noon) “Diversity of Geosystems in the Caatinga Biome”, led by Professor Solange Coutinho ( Fundaj/UPE) and “Reflection of geosystems in the face of climate change and its consequences for conservation and desertification processes”, with forest engineer Francisco Campillo, Technical Director of the Araripe Foundation, President of the National Council of the Caatinga Biosphere Reserve.

Works with urgent themes will be presented, such as those that problematize “Fires: chemical processes, environmental impacts and sustainable solutions for Brazilian biomes” or “The impact of the economic system on the climate of Brazil: the threat of desertification in Brazilian biomes due to agribusiness”. .

There will also be talks on the world of drones, the climate crisis and smart cities, the role of renewable energy in preserving Brazilian biomes, chemical elements at work, and the science behind everyday life. Check the full schedule.
