Several people were injured after a wall collapsed in a cave on the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier this afternoon. A large-scale rescue operation is now underway.

It was initially thought that an entire cave had collapsed on top of the tour group, but on Sunday evening, police superintendent Sven Kristian Runarsson told Visir that people were standing in a gap between the cave entrance when the wall collapsed.

Conditions on the glacier are extremely difficult for rescue teams, Guðmundsdóttir says.
According to police superintendent Runarsson, rescue teams have stopped bringing machinery to the scene. Many rescuers are using their hands to try to find the two missing people, Morgunblaðið told.
The ice cave is located west of Lake Jökulsárlón, Jón Þór Víglundsson Ruv reported.
Rescue teams were dispatched from Höfn, Orav and Kirkopajarklaustri, according to Landsbjarga's information representative.
The incident was reported to police at 3pm on Sunday.
