“I was sick and I felt terrible,” Joe Biden said in his first TV interview after the debate against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

President Biden has previously explained that he had a bad evening, and that he almost fell asleep on stage during the debate, after so much travel in the previous days.

Biden also told ABC that he performed poorly during the debate and that he was tested for Covid.

– We tried to figure out what was wrong with me. I was tested to see if I had the coronavirus or some other infection, you know, a virus. I didn't have that. I had a bad cold,” Biden says.

When asked if he watched the debate after it happened, Biden replied:

– I don't think I did, no.

In addition to illness, Biden points to former President Trump, who reportedly spoke with his microphone muted, which reportedly upset Biden.

– Even when they turned off his microphone, he screamed, and I let him distract me. “I don't blame it, but I realized I wasn't in control,” Biden says.

Earlier Friday, President Joe Biden entered the stage to the tune of Tom Petty's “I Won't Back Down” during a campaign rally in Madison, Wisconsin.

He has been wrong several times, including when he said he would beat Trump in 2020 — before correcting himself and saying 2024.

Biden spoke for about 17 minutes. He ended by talking about how the job of the American president is about strength of character and morality.

– It's about honesty. It's about the president's morals and integrity. Does he respect people or does he encourage violence and hatred? Can he fulfill the oath he took to uphold the Constitution and the office of the President?

He added that Trump has “street cat morals.”
