Charles and Camilla met in the 1970s, and even when Charles married Princess Diana and Camilla married her boyfriend, they maintained their “close friendship” throughout their marriage. It took nearly 30 years for the two to become a public and official couple.

In 1993, an intimate phone call between Charles and Camilla was leaked to the British press, which caused a major scandal. In the ensuing years, both separated from their partners.
