A 33-year-old man fell off the edge of a famous footbridge in the Grand Canyon on Monday, June 5.

The man, who has not yet been identified, fell about 4,000 feet, which is about 1,219 metres, and died.

“The Skywalk” is a horseshoe-shaped glass bridge that protrudes about 21 meters from the gorge wall, giving the public a view of the Colorado River.

About ten million people have visited the bridge since 2007.

The search and rescue team used a helicopter in the search, from the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office, where they finally declared the man dead at the scene.

The deceased crew was taken to the Hualapai Reservation, which is responsible for managing the tourist attraction. The Hualapai are a tribe native to northwestern Arizona.

Six people have reportedly been found dead, and at least 56 people have been reported missing from 2018 to March 1 this year, according to the newspaper.

The American newspaper wrote that documents from the Department of the Interior show that the Grand Canyon is the national park where most of the deaths and missing persons occur.
