Sporting Benfica and Benfica drew 3-3 on Wednesday in the 11th round of the national junior championship. The Lions led by two goals, but allowed the Eagles to equalize in extra time at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy.
The Green and Whites started the better side and scored after just two minutes through Diogo Martins. However, the Reds managed to hit back before the break, equalising through Eduardo Fernandes.
In the second half, Sporting came back strongly again and returned to the lead thanks to a goal by Flavio Gonçalves, the player who scored two goals in the match, achieving the score 3-1 in the 77th minute.
But Leonen's win was not yet assured and Benfica managed to equalise even after Miguel Govea saved a penalty kick after a shot from Thomas Soares.
João Capucho, 86, and Eduardo Fernandes, again 93, managed to rescue a point for the visitors, who thus remained one point ahead of Sporting in the league table. Both teams are behind Académico de Viseu, who lead the championship with 16 points, two behind the Eagles and three behind the Lions.
