The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class marks the final gasps towards the full electrification of the German brand. Long sigh with the latest technology and even TikTok.
Take a closer look at the lines of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214), because you will see them for the next 8 to 10 years. This is the period of time when the brand’s engineers believe that this new generation of the E-Class will be among us.
Perhaps that is why – thinking of a commercial career that will be long – we find bolder, more fluid lines than ever in the history of the German brand in this new E-Class.
Also because this is not just an “E class”. It is the generation that will mark the final transition from combustion engines to a 100% electric future. In this segment, it will be the last model of the brand with both diesel and petrol engines.
However, despite the focus on combustion engines, all engines in the new E-Class W214 are electric using mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology. Anyone who wants a 100% electric Mercedes-Benz in this segment should look at the EQE.
technological revolution
Inside the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class there is it all: large screens, high-resolution cameras, artificial intelligence, a high-fidelity sound system and configurable ambient lights.
At the heart of this multifunctionality we find the MBUX Superscreen system – which we have already talked about extensively in this article.
Thanks to this new system, which uses a single computer to “feed” up to three screens, it’s possible to make video calls over Zoom or Webex, play Angry Birds, or even make videos for TikTok.
These are just some of the applications that will be available in the infotainment system of the new E-Class.
The brand claims the W214 is more about software than hardware. It’s hard to believe, when we have so many screens and buttons at our disposal…
In addition, it is also equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) system that recognizes the driver’s preferences, habits and actions. Do you always open your car window next to the office gate? The Mercedes-Benz E-Class will understand and expect this behavior.
but that is not all. It will warm your seat on the coldest of mornings, take your pick Playlist They usually buzz after the gym, or change the chassis configuration to Sport mode in the cornering sequence that “it” knows they like to do faster. All this thanks to the artificial intelligence system developed by Mercedes-Benz.

However, being an E-class – with all the legacy that the name implies – there are more values to defend than technology. Space and comfort are two of them. In this new generation, passenger space has grown in all directions. It now measures about 5m (4949mm) long and 3m (2961mm) wheelbase and it shows off the inside.
Diesel, petrol and plug-in engines
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class (214) continues to focus heavily on combustion engines – and all-electricity is the responsibility of the EQE range. And for the first time, there are no six-cylinder engines, only four-cylinder engines.
Thus, at the base of the range we find two four-cylinder engines with a volume of 2.0 liters: a petrol unit (E 200) with 204 hp, and a diesel engine (E 220 d) with 197 hp. Both are equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that enhances heat engine efficiency and delivers an additional boost of up to 20 horsepower.

The performance of these engines is very similar, announcing 0-100 km/h acceleration in around 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. Naturally, the E 200 d version wins in terms of consumption: 5.5 l / 100 km versus 7.3 l / 100 km for the E 200 version.
Turning to the range, we find the plug-in hybrid versions. The same engine from the E200 (a 2.0-liter four-cylinder) is now paired with an electric unit with two power levels, giving rise to the E 300e and E 400e 4Matic versions.
In the first, the total combined power is 308 horsepower, while in the second it is 375 horsepower. Thanks a on him Powered by 25.4 kWh batteries, these versions boast up to 115 km of 100% electric range.
These numbers allow the E 300e to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The E 400e version does the same exercise in 5.3 seconds.
Another Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Razão Automóvel had the opportunity to speak with the development team of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class at a round table with several international journalists.
Despite the various questions surrounding the future of the E-Class, the answers have always been the same: “We are focused on launching this model, we don’t want to speculate about the future.” We insisted and the only thing that came out of that record was the life expectancy of this new generation “between 8 to 10 years in the active ones”. after that? we will see.
One thing is for sure “Mercedes-Benz’s future is electric,” said one of the brand managers, noting that if there is a new generation of this model, it must be electric.
As for the Mercedes-AMG versions, one of the officials offered a vague “stay tuned” version, indicating that a more vitamin-rich version of the W214 E-class is on the way. With electrified V8s or with electrified four-cylinder engines? We’ll know soon.
We remind you that the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class hits the market later this summer, with prices yet to be revealed.
