Diesel and gasoline prices are dropping again, for the third week in a row, starting next Monday, September 12. Diesel will still be 13 cents more expensive than gasoline – also the highest difference since at least May 2015.
According to Negócios’ calculations, the price of Simple Gasoline 95 is expected to drop by about 5.7 cents to 1.662 euros per liter, returning to the values verified at the end of 2021.
In the case of diesel, the trend is the same and the weekly decline in simple diesel will be 3.6 cents to 1793 euros. This year alone, the price of this fuel has already increased by 19%.
The fuel price update comes at a time when Brent crude, traded in London and a benchmark for European imports, although rising, is on track for its second consecutive weekly decline.
The calculations are based on the evolution of these two oil derivatives (diesel and gasoline) and the euro. But the cost of fuel at the pump will always depend on each filling station, the brand and the region in which it is located.
The evolution of pump gasoline and diesel prices is already taking into account the easing of the tax burden on fuel through the weekly ISP review mechanism and the reduction of the unit rates of this tax to the equivalent of the value-added tax rate.
The government decided this week that it will continue to reduce fuel prices by the equivalent of at least 16 euros for diesel and 14 euros for petrol per 50-liter tank. The extraordinary measure, so far, until the end of 2022
The new prices take into account the differences calculated by Negócios in relation to the average price that Portugal has practiced this week and announced by the Directorate General of Energy and Geology (DGEG).Negócios’ calculations are based on contracts different from those of the oil companies (although the development is usually similar), and the data on Negócios is only available until Thursday (one day of negotiations is missing).
