From electricity to bread: the new year brings a general increase in prices – Fora de Campo

The year starting on Sunday will be marked by a general increase in the prices that consumers will pay for the services they use on a daily basis, with inflation in November reaching 9.9%.

Electricity will increase for those in the regulated market, but also for some customers who have switched to the liberalized market, under pressure from the prices of natural gas used to produce electricity.

Fees also record increases, in addition to rents, although they are restricted by the government, taking into account the effect of inflation on these prices.

Known price updates for this year are as follows:

Electricity

The price of electricity in the regulated market increased by 1.6% in January 2023, compared to December, with a rise of 3.3% compared to the average for this year, higher values than those proposed in October, the ERSE – Entidade Energy Services Regulator announced.

According to the data published by ERSE, with this increase, the average monthly bill, as of January 2023, for a couple without children (energy 3.45 kVA, consumption 1900 kWh / year) increases by 0.54 euros, and for a couple with two children (energy 6.9 kVA, consumption 5000 kWh / year) costs 1.41 euros.

In a deregulated market, EDP Comercial announced that it will increase the electricity bill for residential customers by about 3% on average from Sunday, reflecting the volatility of the cost of buying energy.

For its part, Endesa expects to maintain the global value of electricity bills for customers in 2023, starting with including the cost of the Iberian Mechanism, while reducing electricity prices, the company warned in a note to customers.

Iberdrola reported that customers’ electricity bills will drop, on average, by 15% this year, noting that this reduction “applies to power components and access costs.” “Of course, taxes, fees and other values set by the state” are excluded, Iberdrola added in a statement.

An official source told Lusa that Galp will reduce electricity bills by about 11% on average from the beginning of 2023. Thus, the same source said, “For the average consumption of a typical family with two children, which is the most common in Galp’s customer portfolio, the This update would translate to an average decrease of €3.5 to €6″ per month.

Gas
ERSE announced that the natural gas bill will rise, starting this month, by about 3% for customers most represented in the regulated market, after a deviation in the purchase price expectations.

The entity said, in a statement, that it had updated “the energy tariff rate in the regulated market, by an additional two euros per MWh, as of January 1, 2023.”

Thus, the average monthly bill, as of this month, for a couple without children (consumption class 1, consumption 1,610 kWh/year) increases by 0.33 € and for a couple with two children (consumption class 2, consumption 3,407 kWh/year) year) rises by 0.70 euros.

For its part, “Jaleb” indicated that “natural gas bills will remain unchanged in the first three months of 2022” for its customers.

tie my shoes
Rents can only rise, from January, up to 2%, after the Government has published a law to that effect, in Diario da Repubblica, in October, within the scope of measures aimed at mitigating the impact of price increases.

Under the provisions of Law No. 19/2022, “during the calendar year 2023, the annual rent update coefficient for the various types of lease contracts stipulated in Article 24 of Law No. 6/2006 of February 27,” with the coefficient applicable in the various types of lease contracts in urban areas The covered rural is 1.02, “without prejudice to a different provision between the parties.”

However, the rent update factor set for 2023 (1.02) is the highest in the past nine years. In 2022, a coefficient of 1.0043 applies and in 2021, a coefficient of 0.9997 applies.

fees
The then Minister of Infrastructure announced that the fees would increase by 4.9% starting this month, considering the solution that it was possible to reach a “balanced”.

“It was clear to us that an increase of 9.5% and 10.5% was unbearable, but there are also contracts and responsibilities and we tried to find a balanced solution that would allow for a smaller increase,” said Pedro Nuno Santos. He resigned from the government.

Hence, starting from Sunday, the fee rates will increase by 4.9% in the amount charged to users. On top of this amount, the former governor explained, “the responsibility of the state will be 2.8% and the rest, up to 9.5% or 10.5%, on the concessionaires.”

This solution results from the “sharing of responsibilities” and prevents fee prices generated from franchise contracts from rising by 9.5% and 10.5% in 2023, due to the current context of high inflation.

The Transportation Authority (AMT) announced in October that the planned transportation tariff update amounted to 6.11%, noting that its maximum value is the average rate of change in the consumer price index, excluding housing, in the 12 months between October 2021 and September. 2022, or zero when this rate is negative.

However, he highlighted in a note published on his ‘site’, for the year 2023, “In the current macroeconomic context, taking into account the inflation rate, Cabinet Resolution No. 74-A / 2022, on Sept. 6, and without prejudice to compensation that will be granted by the competent transport authorities “,” not to increase the “public transport permits” and “maintain during that year the tariff in force in 2022 for CP transport tickets” with reference to normal services, that is, the tariff increase of 6.11%, can only be applied to ” Tickets and incidental carriage fare.

Thus, Navegante tariff passes and Carris Metropolitana spin-off tickets in 2023 will maintain the prices in effect this year.

Transportes Intermodals do Porto (TIP) said incidental tickets for the Andante intermodal tariff, in the Porto metropolitan area (AMP), will suffer an average increase of 1% from January. Monthly passes will not increase.

Telecommunications
The CEO of Altice Portugal, owner of Meo, said prices will be updated from February, with fixed-vote-only customers and retirees with a retirement plan excluded from the increase.

The position of other operators is not yet known.

bread
The price of bread is expected to rise again in 2023, due to the increase in the cost of raw materials and energy, but also affected by the modernization of the minimum wage at the national level.

“Much will depend on the variance in raw material and energy prices, but it is very likely that it will rise, even due to the effect of the increase in the minimum wage,” conceived the direction of the Association of Trade and Bakery Industry (ACIP), in response to the Portuguese.

According to the association, only part of the increases were reflected in the price paid by the consumer, and the remainder was borne by producers who, in turn, experienced a decline in profit margins.

Searching operations
Vehicle technical inspection fees also increased in 2023, rising from the current 25.85 euros to 27.80 euros for light vehicles and from 13.02 euros to 14 euros for motorcycles, in addition to value-added tax.

In heavy vehicles, the inspection fee has increased from the current €38.69 (excluding VAT) to €41.60 as of Sunday.

The Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) argued in a decision published in the newspaper Diario da Repubblica that the increase in tariffs next year is due to the inflation rate, as it claims to have taken into account the latest update of the consumer price index, which was published. in mid-December and back to November, resulting in an average annual rate of change (excluding housing) of 7.53%.
