Foxconn will focus on the agricultural sector as it begins production of its flagship electric tractors at its new manufacturing facility in Lordstown, Ohio.
Foxconn has started producing electric tractors
With the electric vehicle market developing at a good pace, manufacturers are now starting to look for other segments to start electrifying them with.
Such is the case of agriculture, a sector traditionally considered, but where technological innovations are beginning to gain momentum.
To support the electrification of equipment in this sector, Foxconn has begun production of electric tractors at its new plant located in Lordstown, Ohio, after it was acquired in 2021 for $230m from Lordstown Motors.
Designed by startup monarchthis electric tractor has a 70 kW peak motor, 40 kW continuous output, and an autonomy of more than 14 hours of work per load.
To ensure operational safety, it has a rollover and collision prevention system, power take-off (PTO) safety, person detection and 360-degree cameras that allow this tractor to be operated even at night.
Another great novelty is the fact that it can be used with and without a driver. For this purpose, it contains driver assistance systems, as well as the possibility of carrying out pre-programmed tasks or gesture and shadow modes so that the tractor follows the worker on its tasks.
The price follows the technological innovations
Accompanying the great technological innovations, we also find a high price.
This electric tractor will cost US$50,000, twice as much as a similar gasoline-powered model, but will be able to make up for it with both cost reduction and automation of various tasks.
