New Fords can drive “by themselves” to the showroom, run out of air conditioning, make annoying noises that are impossible to turn off or even lock the doors if the owner fails to make the down payment. The American car company is trying to license a technology patent that would allow it to control the car remotely if it did not receive installments on time.
According to the American newspaper New York PostIn addition to the above methods, the company may be able to turn off the automatic window system and the cruise control function. If the car owner still doesn’t pay the premium, Ford vehicles with semi-automatic or automatic driving functions can drive “on their own” to a brand dealership.
This technology will be used if drivers ignore “vehicle late payment notifications” that are sent to mobile phones or in-vehicle computer systems.
Ford patented “Vehicle Replacement Systems and Methods” in August 2021, but it still lacks final authorization.
When asked about this, company spokesperson Wes Sherwood said that they have “no plans” to implement the technology and that it is just “one of many patent applications” that the company regularly files.
