FC Porto raises the bar of expectations by Alan Varela

The Argentine midfielder’s negotiating marathon is progressing with FC Porto ready to increase the bid; Dragons should be close to €10m, an amount that suits Boca Juniors’ intentions, but there are other factors to adjust, such as the percentage of a future sale.

Boca Juniors’ rejection of Alan Varela’s initial FC Porto proposal did not dampen the Dragons’ interest. Quite the contrary. The negotiating marathon of the Argentine midfielder is still standing still in Buenos Aires, and according to the information collected by O JOGO, the blue and white SAD is available to increase the stakes, in order to get closer to the values intended by Boca Juniors. The €10m minimum has the potential to cancel the operation – the termination clause is €13.4m – but at the same time, there remains a hurdle. With an eye on Alan’s future sale, Xeneize intend to keep a percentage of the player’s pass, an issue that deserves special focus in the talks.

In terms of Boca, the intentions are clear. The club is ready to lose a major asset under coach Jorge Almiron, but is not considering adopting a very flexible attitude. Sporting ambitions are also part of the list of interests of the Bombonera club, which welcomes in the financial portfolio the possibility of long-term profits from Alan Varela, which is reflected in such a desire to preserve part of the economic rights of the midfielder.

On the youth international side for Argentina, the position is taken. For now, the No. 5 remains focused on Boca Juniors’ goals but the door opening in Dragão captivates Varela, who at 22 feels he is at the right point of maturity to make the leap to Europe. Of course, being able to play in the Champions League is an added joy, something the player’s surroundings are aware of. As O JOGO wrote in yesterday’s edition, Alan already knows he has a five-year contract waiting for him at Invicta.

Strengthening the midfield is considered a priority by Sérgio Conceição and SAD is in line with the coach. An idea that was illustrated by Alan Varela’s insistence on negotiations, after Boca rejected the first offer of 7.2 million euros for 90% of the ticket, in addition to 15% of future capital gains. With a new, larger proposal on the table, there is faith in a positive outcome.

Counting on Varela in the last 16 of the Libertadores is a tough wish

In addition to keeping a percentage of Alan Varela’s pass on the table, Boca Juniors, thinking in sporting terms, sets the goal of keeping the midfielder in the club’s staff until the beginning of August. This is because on the third and eighth of next month, the Argentine giants will play in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores, against Uruguay’s Nacional. The importance of FC Porto’s goal is thus made clear in the “Xeneize” strategy, but Boca also understands that this ideal scenario will be difficult to achieve if the player reaches an agreement in the meantime.
