The Portuguese Football Federation reported on Monday that Fabio Carvalho has waived his bid to represent the Portugal under-21 national team. The young Liverpool player was called up by Rui Jorge for friendly matches with the Czech Republic and Japan, in preparation for the European match.

“The footballer has decided to give up representing Portugal at the under-21 level. Fabio Carvalho, at the age of 20, has already represented England in the youth team, having been “recruited” into the Portugal U-21 national team for qualification for the European Championship. In Liverpool, he played 16 matches and scored two goals this season.

Portugal was included in Group A of the final stage of the European Championship, where it participated in the confrontations with hosts Georgia (June 21), the Netherlands (24) and Belgium (27). The top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the quarter-finals.
