The former France international was sentenced to a 12-month suspended prison sentence by the Nanterre Municipal Court; the former side will appeal.
According to Le Parisien, the criminal court in Nanterre sentenced former French international Patrice Evra to 12 months in prison, suspended, and also ordered him to pay a fine of 4,000 euros in compensation for moral damages to his former partner Sandra Evra.
The court considered the family's abandonment by the former player who was representing blue 81 times and played for clubs such as Monaco, Manchester United and Juventus during his career.
Sandra, 42, and Patrice Evra, 43, married in 2007 and have two children. In July 2020, British tabloid The Daily Mail revealed compromising photos of the former footballer with Danish model Margot Alexandra, whom he would eventually marry and have two more children with. Sandra Evra immediately filed for divorce in a French court, but the process is still ongoing.
“I hope that Patrice Evra understands with this decision that he is not above the law and cannot abandon his wife and children overnight,” said Judge Nathalie Dubois, “especially when he met his former partner at the age of 15 and she accompanied him all over the world to support him in his football career.” She also explained that the former player has owed around one million euros in alimony since then. He abandoned his family four years ago.
Patrice Evra was not satisfied with the decision, and his lawyer Jerome Boursiquin confirmed that he would appeal, as, according to him, Evra offered his ex-wife “a luxurious house with a swimming pool, in the south of France, and also two million euros for running expenses.”
