Euro 2024: All of Portugal’s possible opponents (which is part of Pot 1)

Euro 2024: All of Portugal’s possible opponents (which is part of Pot 1)

The constitution of the four pots for the Euro 2024 draw has been practically determined, and after the end of the qualifying group stage, all that remains is to find out the three winning teams from the three playoff paths, which will occupy the fourth pot.

This Tuesday, Turkey and Romania confirmed first place in their groups, and thus their presence in the second pot.

Croatia, who finished last in the group stage this evening, have moved to Pot 3, and the Croats’ progress pushes Italy into Pot 4, as was confirmed on Tuesday for Switzerland, which failed to beat Romania to win the group.

Portugal, in the first pot, avoids some of the “sharks”, such as host Germany, but also France, Spain, Belgium and England, but can catch up with many of the best teams in Europe distributed in the remaining three pots.

Remember, Pot 1 consists of the home team, plus the top five group winners in the qualifiers (note: since there are groups of five and other groups of six, results against sixth-placed teams are not counted in this calculation). Pot 2 features the five worst group winners, plus the best runner-up. Pot 3 contains six other runners-up places (from second to seventh place among the ten groups). Pot 4 contains the three worst runner-up finishes, as well as the three winners of the playoff scheduled for March 2024.

The draw for the 2024 European Championship is scheduled to take place on December 2nd in Hamburg.
