Estoril beat Benfica and moved closer to the top spot in the Champions League qualifying round, remaining two points and a game behind Sporting. The team coached by Felipe Coelho was particularly effective throughout the first half and then knew how to manage the advantage, against a team that was outnumbered from the 38th minute.

The Canarinhos started better and had the opportunity to take the initiative, first with a shot against the post from Duarte Carvalho (6') and then with three more moves that forced Veljkovic to make as many saves. After that period, the Eagles were able to better control the domestic initiative and, in quick transitions, created the best chances until the break, with José Milro isolated on two occasions (22' and 35') and Iván Lima on another (45+1).
