Douglas Emhoff, Doug Emhoff | It could be historical: This is Kamala Harris' husband, Douglas Emhoff

If Kamala Harris (60 years old) wins for the Democrats in the US presidential elections, she will become the country's first female president – as all 46 so far have been men.

But Kamala Harris will not be the only one who may make history in the White House. Her husband, Douglas Emhoff (60 years old), will do the same thing if his wife wins the elections.

30 years as a lawyer

Emhoff was born in Brooklyn, New York, before his mother and father took the family with them and moved to Mattawan, New Jersey. When he became a teenager, the family moved to Los Angeles, California.

He stayed here during his studies, studying, among other things, at California State University before earning a law degree from Southern California Gould Law School.

Related to a mutual friend

Emhoff and Harris were connected through a mutual friend in 2013. They first spoke via text message, before Emhoff finally left a voicemail on her answering machine.

reverse the people Emhoff described the voice message as “desperate” and feared he would not hear back after it was sent. For her part, Harris said she finds the voicemail “fascinating” and saves it and plays it on her wedding day every year to remember where it all began.

They eventually became a couple, before marrying the following year. The Emhoff children nicknamed Harris “Momala,” and together they started a modern family. On several occasions, Harris has spoken warmly about how she was welcomed by her husband's family and how she became a part of it.

“The family could not have been more welcoming,” Harris said.

Both their proposal and wedding were private and intimate. While the engagement took place at home in their apartment in a hurry before a vacation trip to Italy, they were married at a Santa Barbara courthouse.

Support from family

There's no doubt that Momala is now a full-fledged member of the Emhoff family. Both his ex-wife and children have shown clear support for the stepmother when she became Vice President in 2020 and now in the ongoing presidential election.

Among other things, Kirsten Emhoff defended Harris when J.D. Vance referred to her as a “sad catwoman with no kids.”

-For more than ten years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has co-parented the children with me and Doug. She is very loving, caring, protective and always present. “I love our modern family and I love having her in it,” she said at the time.

Daughter Ella appears in several of her father's campaign videos for Harris:

Historical in many ways
