“Di Maria? Some went to the Arabian Peninsula, and he chose to return to Benfica.”

Angel Di Maria will expire his contract with Benfica next summer, and there has been some news about a return to Rosario Central in Argentina.

Now, when asked about the future of the Argentine international, Roger Schmidt did not give a specific answer, but praised his decision to return to the Eagles.

“We are preparing everything. Everything happens behind the scenes and it also depends on the players. I’m very happy to have Angel here, and I like his decision to return to Benfica. He said in a press conference: “Many other players made different decisions in this situation. Some of them went to Saudi Arabia, but he chose to return and I liked this decision.”

“Even when he arrived, I knew him well, but I was very surprised by his quality and his mentality. He’s a fantastic player, a key player and he’s back to his best after his injury. We are very happy and will enjoy every training session and every match with him. At the end of the season we will see if he is happy enough to stay another year or if he wants to enjoy other things.”

Rafa and Chiquinho also terminated their contracts at the end of the current season: “These things happen behind the scenes. I want to keep all the players. When the transfer window opens, it’s normal to think about adjustments, it’s normal, but these things happen behind the scenes. My job is to focus fully on the matches, if anything happens in the winter, I don’t know.
