Developer Vampyr used Unreal Engine 5 for its next game

La Tomes (Life is Strange, Tell Me Why, Twin Mirror, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie) is back in action games again with Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, a new RPG for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

Delayed until February 2024, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is still described as an “AA” project, despite having a higher budget than Vampyr’s. With a limited budget and a limited team, they had to think more and better, especially because they improved the quality of gameplay and narrative, the producers stress.

In a recent interview, they revealed that they switched from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 midway through production, but they will not be using technologies like Lumen or Nanite, which were created by Epic Games.

“We thought about Unreal Engine 5 and decided to change it during production,” said Nicolas Serwar, Technical Director.

“This was a more realistic decision. It is possible to end support for Unreal Engine 4 and we were ready to get the latest improvements and fixes that Epic has made to various systems in Unreal Engine 5.”

“In hindsight, we in no way regret making this choice,” he added.
