“Dear husband, since you are busy with other businesses, I announce our divorce.” Dubai princess announces her separation on social media

Some Instagram users have speculated whether the Instagram account has been hacked, however, the post and account remain active for more than a day after posting.

The daughter of the Emir of Dubai announced her divorce on social media, in a rare move for a princess from the United Arab Emirates.

The Instagram account of Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced her intention to separate from her husband.

“Dear husband, since you are busy with other businesses, I announce our divorce. ‘I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you,’” reads the latest post on the 30-year-old Mahra’s account.

The princess appears to be referring to the controversial practice of triple talaq used in some Muslim countries, where a man divorces his wife instantly by declaring it three times. The method is banned in some countries and is not commonly used by women.

Mahra married Sheikh Manea bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, a member of Dubai’s ruling family, last year in a lavish ceremony that featured magazines like Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and Grazia. The couple had a daughter soon after. Photos of her and her husband have been deleted from her account. There are no photos of her on Sheikh Manea’s Instagram account.

The princess has a strong public and social media presence, frequently attending red carpet events in Dubai and gracing the covers of regional magazines, an unusual practice for royal women. She has nearly half a million followers on Instagram, where she posts about her hobbies, love of horses, charity work and selfies. His mother, Zoe Grigorakos, is Greek.

Some Instagram users have speculated whether their accounts have been hacked. However, both the post and the account remain active for more than a day after posting.

CNN contacted the Dubai government media office for comment, which referred CNN to the Mahra government media office. CNN was unable to reach the Mahra press office.

Neither the UAE government nor Al Mahra's husband, Sheikh Manea, have publicly commented on the situation. CNN has reached out to Sheikh Manea for comment via his Instagram account.
