Former goalkeeper Daniel Guimarães, who represented Nacional for six seasons between 2017 and 2023, has died at the age of 37, the victim of a long illness, the Bramira Liga club announced on Friday.

In March 2021, the Brazilian goalkeeper had already put his career on hold, after being diagnosed with a cancerous problem, but he returned to the field in the 2022/23 season, his last season as a professional footballer, and now resides in Minas Gerais, in Brazil.
In the six seasons in which he played with Madeiran, he participated in 116 matches, after being prominent in the team that won the second Portuguese league title, in the 2017/18 season.
Before the European adventure, he also represented America Mineiro, Formiga, Moji Morem, Ponte Preta, America RN and Red Bull Brasil.
